PRE-CARE PROGRAMME

Who is the programme for?
The programme is suitable for young people who would like to 'have a go' at Care or Childcare before making a decision.  If you are unsure about what's involved in either job, then give it a try.

What is involved?
The programme lasts for 10 weeks and includes:
Employer Expectations.  Spend time with the E2E tutor looking at what the employers expect from you.  What hours, roles and duties are involved in the jobs, before you go on placement.

Two 'taster blocks' with an employer.  You decide, you can choose Childcare or Elderly care or try both.  Try different types of placements or stay in the same one.

Work Based Learning isn't just about placements, so we'll organise with the programme tutors for you to attend theory classes for the NVQ.  This will allow you to see the coursework side of the programmes and make sure its right for you.

Health & Safety in the Workplace/Equal opportunities.  Both Health & Safety and Equal Opportunities are integral parts of all our programmes.  You will study both subjects so that you are aware of your rights and
responsibilities in both areas.

CRB Disclosure.  A tutor will complete a 'Police Check' with you, so that when you choose a WBL programme, you can go straight out to an employer.

During the first week you will build an 'Individual Plan', so that you make the most of your time on the course.

WORKS 4 U

Who is the programme for?
The programme is suitable for young people who are unsure about the area of work they want.

What is involved?
You spend time in-house working on developing your personal qualities and preparing yourself for the world of work.  Once you are ready, you can choose work tasters that you want to take part in.

An important part of our personal development programme is the employability skills sessions.  These sessions focus on building employment skills from job search through to starting a new job.

You can also develop your ’Key Skills’ by taking part in the sessions available.  These include literacy, numeracy, and ICT workshops.

When ready, you will be put on placement with a local employer for an agreed period of time (2-4 weeks) to try out the jobs of their choice.

You are not limited in the number or variety of types of work you wish to try and agreed time periods can always be extended or re-negotiated.  You can choose similar types of work or opposite extremes and experience them out in industry.  If it’s available within the borough and then possible for you to progress onto it, we’ll allow you to try it.
